What separates a name cap that looks sharp from one that looks like a craft project is four decisions: where the name goes, how big the letters are, what thread you pick, and which hat you put it on. Where names look best on a hat
- Front center. The classic. One name or one word, big enough to read across a parking lot. Works on any structured cap.
- Side placement. The move when the front already carries a logo. A first name on the wearer's left side personalizes a uniform without crowding the brand. Our order flow includes side text as an add-on for exactly this.
- Back, above the closure. Subtle and clean on snapbacks, where the name sits above the opening. Popular for staff hats: logo front, name back.
The lettering rules that decide how it looks
- Keep letters above a quarter inch tall. Smaller than that, embroidered lettering starts closing up. It is the single most common mistake in name orders. A name has fewer characters than a logo, so let it breathe.
- Block fonts read best in thread. Clean sans-serif and athletic block styles stitch crisp. Thin scripts can work at larger sizes, but hairline serifs disappear.

How name orders work here
One name or one design: order the hat, upload your text design the same way you would a logo, or add side text in the cart. Standard pricing applies: the hat price covers the stitching, and a first-run design carries the one-time $30 digitizing with a real sewn proof, waived at 12 or more items and on every reorder.
A roster of different names (a team where every hat gets its own name): email support@embroideryinc.com with the hat you want and the name list, and we will quote it straight. Simple text setups are quick work compared to logo digitizing, and we would rather price your exact list than publish a vague per-name number here.
Name plus logo: the most popular combo for businesses: company logo front, employee name on the side. Both run in the same production pass, and your sewn proof shows the pairing before the order goes forward.

Can I get just one hat with a name on it?
Yes. Embroidery Inc has no minimum order. One hat with one name works, and you still approve a photo of the real stitched result before it ships.
How small can embroidered lettering be?
Keep letters at least a quarter inch tall. Below that, thread physically closes the gaps in letters like e and a. If a name has to be tiny, a simpler font buys some room.
Can every hat in my order have a different name?

What font is best for embroidered names?
Clean block and athletic fonts stitch the sharpest. Scripts work at larger sizes. Hairline serifs and very thin strokes are the ones to avoid in thread.
